How to create an interactive map, add locations, and share or embed it

In this guide, I will show you how to create an interactive map like the one below (try zooming in and out, clicking on markers, and see how fast it works):

  • Create an account at makememap.com (we don’t ask for personal details or a credit card — you only need to enter your email and password, so it takes just a minute). After entering your email and password and clicking Register, you will be redirected to the MakeMeMap web app.
  • Click + to create a new map and open the map editor (you can create up to 5 maps with a free account).
  • Add a marker. This can be done in two ways: by right-clicking (or using a two-finger tap on a touchpad) anywhere on the map, or by clicking the + Marker icon in the left sidebar.
  • After adding a marker, you can customize its appearance and add a popup title, description, image, and button title/URL.
  • Add as many markers as you need.
  • You can also add routes by uploading GPX files. Click the + Route button in the left sidebar and select a GPX file. Repeat to add more routes. Each route will appear in the left sidebar and can be customized (for example, background color). To customize or delete a route, select it in the left sidebar.
  • The final step is to set the map name, description, and style. To do this, open the map configuration in the left sidebar near the map name. Map settings will appear in the right sidebar. There, you can find a URL to share the map or copy the HTML embed code for your website, blog, or CMS.

That’s it — as you can see, a map can be created in about 5 minutes without any coding.
