How to add, customize, and delete markers on a map

MakeMeMap allows you to add an unlimited number of markers (also called pins or locations) and popups (a view that shows some information when you click or tap on a marker). You can also organize them into unlimited groups, use icons, and even upload custom SVGs.

For example, on the map below you can see different types of markers: simple circles, markers with icons, and clusters. Clustering groups markers automatically when you zoom out, keeping the map clean and improving performance. (Unlike this, Google Maps still hides some markers when zooming out.)

How to add a marker

There are 3 ways to add markers to a map:

  • Go to app.makememap.com and open the map where you want to add markers.
  • Right-click (or use a two-finger tap on a touchpad) anywhere on the map and select "Add Pin Here" to add a marker at that location.
  • (Alternative) Right-click (or use a two-finger tap) and select "Add Pin to Map Center" to add a marker to the map center (marked with a "+" icon).
  • (Alternative) Click on in the left sidebar under the map name.

How to customize a marker

  • Click on a marker on the map or select it from the list in the left sidebar.
  • The marker settings will appear on the right side.
  • In the Appearance section, you can change the marker color, size, opacity, choose an icon, or add your own SVG.

How to delete a marker

  • Click on a marker on the map or select it from the list in the left sidebar.
  • The marker settings will appear on the right side.
  • Click on in the top-right corner.
  • Confirm that you want to delete the marker.

Marker roadmap

What we plan to add soon:

  • Marker templates that can be applied to an entire group. For example, you could assign a bus icon to all markers in a group. New markers in that group will automatically use the template, but you can still customize them individually later.
  • Cluster settings (enable/disable clustering, customize cluster appearance, and define when markers should group).
  • Markers with images and photos.
  • Fully customizable markers using CSS.
  • Show/hide markers by clicking groups in the map legend.
