How to Add a Map with Multiple Locations to WordPress

How to add interactive maps with multiple locations to WordPress

Adding a map to your WordPress website is really simple. In this blog post, I’ll show you how to do it without using external plugins, creating API keys, or dealing with any complex setup. You have two easy options:

  1. Add an interactive map – just insert one line of HTML code.
  2. Add a static image of a map with an active link – when users click on it, the map opens in a new browser tab. This method doesn't require adding HTML.

No matter which option you choose, you can create your map using Make Me Map. Here's how to do it (it's completely free for sites with small to medium traffic):

  1. Go to makememap.com and create an account if you don’t have one yet.
  2. In your account, click the “New Map” button.
  3. Choose your preferred map style.
  4. Add locations, overlays, and adjust other settings as needed.
  5. Click “Publish” and copy either the HTML code or the image URL.
  6. Paste the HTML code or add the image to your WordPress blog, store, or website.

That’s it! If you need more maps, just create them in your Make Me Map account and embed them the same way. All maps are mobile-friendly by default and require no development skills.

Why Not Use a WordPress Plugin?

Using plugins for maps might seem convenient, but there are some downsides:

  • Plugins often require additional setup and API keys, typically from third-party services like Google Maps. These services can be costly.
  • Plugins consume extra resources and can slow down your website.
  • Plugins are less flexible—you can only place maps where the plugin allows. With Make Me Map, you can place your map anywhere: posts, pages, footers, etc.
  • Some plugins might not be compatible with certain WordPress versions, and you'll need to keep them updated.
  • Some plugins require visitors to accept a privacy policy before the map is displayed.

At Make Me Map, we aim to make mapping as easy as possible. That’s why you can create and embed a map without any plugins—just copy and paste a line of code or image link.
